Three-part session to teach players to deal with collecting passes while a defender closes in.
This moves the players closer to the game, while still placing them in a position to receive under pressure.
Split players into two teams. Divide a rectangular pitch into six areas, with one player from each team locked into each one. Place two small goals at each end of the pitch. Use two balls. Players should be rotated regularly around the different areas, as each will provide them with different experiences and problems to solve.
To start, both teams have a ball and attempt to transfer it between the different areas, before scoring in either of the two goals they are attacking. If a ball goes out of play, a player from whichever area the ball went out from restarts with a kick-in. If the other team wins the ball from their opponents, they keep possession as per a normal game (a team can have possession of both balls).
