Three-part session helping players to deal with collecting passes while a defender closes in.
Though we often encourage our players to look for space to receive a pass, there are advantages to them receiving while under pressure from an opponent. This session places players in an environment where they will always be closely marked by a defender.
The area size should be suitable for your players. Put a small goal on the outside of two sides of the area. On the other two sides, two servers face each other. Inside the area are two more players. Set up three of these areas to accommodate 12 players.
A server passes to one of the players inside the area. On receiving, this player looks to play the ball into one of the small goals (for 1 point) or pass it to the other server (2 points). If successful, the same player receives a pass from the other server and the practice continues. Once the ball has been played in, the player can’t pass back to the original server. If the ball goes out of play, or if the defender wins the ball, the two players in the area swap roles.
