Sharpen up your players’ technical skills and reactions to transitions in this three-part session.
Allows teams in possession to be comfortable playing out from the back with two attacking players trying to press for the ball. It uses combinations and support when transitioning into the other half to score a goal.
Set up a 30x40 box, split in the middle with two goals back-to-back. Each half is 15 by 20 so the area is tight; this challenges players to be able to play under pressure. Formations are 1-3-1 v 2.
Like the warm-up, players must work together. This time, they are free to move around the pitch. Teams that complete six passes must communicate with their team-mates, who are defending in the other half, and attempt to play the ball into them and go to support quickly. This becomes a transition from defence to attack. They then try to score in the goal. Whoever scores goes back into their team’s half and joins in with trying to keep possession. If the defenders win the ball before the attackers make six passes, they can transition and shoot to score. Another ball is played in by a coach.
