Three-part session on a key facet of the modern game - reacting to win back possession.
Teaches players to respond quickly after losing possession by winning the ball back. This first practice focuses on individual player reactions. They will need to close down an attacker before they are able to have a shot on goal.
The area size must make the practice challenging but achievable. Split it in two – the area with the goalkeeper should be slightly bigger. Players start in a corner of the pitch opposite the goal, each with a ball. In the other corner is a small goal.
The practice starts with a defender in the same part of the area as the goalkeeper. An attacker enters and must get into the next area before they can shoot. After they have had a shot, or if the ball goes out of play, another attacker enters the pitch. The player who was the attacker becomes the defender and the defender leaves to join the line of players who will re-enter as attackers. The practice continues this way. If the defender wins the ball, they look to pass it into the small goal.
