This fun three-part session develops players’ 1v1 skills and increases confidence on the ball.
This small-sided game allows players to work on the elements developed earlier in the session in a more game- realistic environment.
Set up a playing area relative to the age and ability of your players. Play with two small goals.
Play a normal 5v5 game, giving players plenty of chances to get on the ball and rotate positions. If one team is overly dominant, be sure to change players around or give the dominant team additional challenges, such as a maximum number of touches or even a challenge of one or more than four touches. This encourages decision-making of ‘do I make a quick pass or can I take a player on?’.
Encourage players to have confidence on the ball and try something creative to beat a defender. Encourage players to move the ball quickly where possible and praise good decision-making of when and where to pass, and when to be brave a take a player on.
