This session focuses on defensive principles and developing defensive techniques.
To be more game specific and prepare players for scenarios that may happen during a game.
Both teams are set up as if they are in a 3-4-3 formation (can be easily changed), red team has three mannequins to represent front three and blues are missing one centre- back and goalkeeper.
Play starts with blue centre- backs behind one of the mannequins, to represent pressure on the ball. The red team must start above the yellow line. The blue team’s objective is to score a goal with the red team trying to regain the ball and score in a target goal, for one point, or get the ball past the mannequins under control, for two points.
Progression: Move into a 9v9 SSG, allowing players the opportunity to practice what has been learnt through the session.
How and when to apply pressure; where to force and direct opponents; covering players compactness and positioning; how to defend in wide areas; decisions when transitioning.
