This session will have your team peppering the opponents’ goal. Use this session as a standalone activity, or combine it with two progressions to create a full session
By adding an extra attacker and an active defender, players are able to work on finishing under pressure. Defenders can steal the ball and shoot as well, giving finishing work to all players.
Use 8-16 players, two goalkeepers, four cones, multiple balls and two goals. Set up two lines of players by each goal.
Attackers play 2v1. Once a shot has been taken or the ball goes dead, the first attacker becomes the next defender, as a new player from behind the goal joins the previous defender as a new attacking pair. The other original attacker goes off. If the defender wins the ball, they can shoot. Out of bounds, missed shots and goals all start the next round. Encourage finishing all rebound shots.
Progression: Limit/add touches (10 for low skill to 3-5 for higher skill players).
Movement: Continue movement refinement to create space.
Awareness: Where is the defender? Can you shoot? If not, can your partner? Can you take a quick first-time shot?
Body shape: Square hips to goal. Reminder- forward momentum will carry the ball forward.
