Encourages players to push out of defence to claim possession of the ball before it reaches dangerous areas.
Encourages defenders to push out and either intercept or win the ball before it is played into dangerous areas.
Use half your normal pitch with a goal at the penalty area end and two cone goals to the side just over the halfway line.
Overload the defenders. In this example, 14 players are used so an attacking team of six faces a defending team of eight, including a goalkeeper. The attacking team starts with the ball on the halfway line. The central defenders must look to win the ball before it reaches the penalty area. If the defenders win the ball, they must look to score in one of the small goals. If the attackers make it into the penalty area, they should look to score.
Central defenders must look to move quickly to put pressure on and identify triggers to attempt to intercept or win the ball. Full-backs should cover inside when the central defenders step up. If the ball goes wide, the central defenders should cover the move of the full-back and look to cut out any passes behind them.
