Use this activity to get your players confident at using different types of turns with different parts of the foot.
This activity is all about the repetition of turning – giving players a chance to practise their turning technique.
For the first part of the practice, mark out a square relative to the age and experience of your players and add a small square in the middle. For the second part, remove the cones, split the area in half and add a goal at each end. Add a cone towards the end of each area.
Split your players into pairs, with one ball per pair. For the first part of the activity, players must dribble up to the cone and execute a turn before they get to it. They then play the ball to their partner. In the second part, join up the pairs so you have two teams. Each player has a ball. Teams race against each other to run to the cone and turn around it before putting the ball in the net. The winning team is the first one to get all their balls in the net.
Focus on getting players to turn correctly before they try to turn quickly. Encourage players to try different types of turns and see what works for them – using the inside of the foot, the outside and the sole.
