Players tend to get bored with these type of soccer drills and the situation isn’t like it would be during a match.
Use this passing soccer drill for a more realistic work-out.
This movement around a square passing drill helps get my coaching point across to the players.
When you pass, you don’t just stand there with your hands in your pockets, you have to anticipate the next move.
You need to give very young players (U5s-U6s) a bit of leeway, however, because they may get confused with the passing and moving in different directions.
Sometimes they will pass and run the same way. When you set up this soccer drill, you can start by using cones and getting your players to move in triangle shapes around the square.
But once they get the hang of the soccer drill skills, you can get rid of the cones and let them move around the pitch using the drill.
It can be quite a tiring soccer drill, so take frequent breaks and talk to the players about how passing drills such as this one can help them be more mobile and ready to receive the ball in match situations.
How to organise the drill
When all your players can do this soccer drill without needing the cones to help them, it becomes a good way to start your soccer coaching sessions.
The players will know immediately what to do and it sharpens their basic soccer skills.
