Make your players’ first touch more effective and teach them to be a realistic passing option.
Develops players’ ability to take an effective first touch and offer options to the player on the ball.
Set up a small square area. Three players are positioned on different sides of the area. Leave one side free.
One player starts with the ball and passes it to another player. The player receiving the ball must always have a pass either side of them, i.e. no straight pass. Therefore, players must decide whether they need to adjust their position to offer an option to the player on the ball. The players continue to play the ball around the area in this manner.
• Can you judge the path and speed of the ball and adjust your body shape accordingly?
• How can you move to support the player on the ball?
• Can you scan before you receive the ball to plan your next pass?
