This session provides players with overload situations that will give them opportunities for them to practice their finishing. Use this session as a standalone activity, or combine it with two progressions to create a full session
This practice encourages the attacking players to shoot from specific areas of the pitch.
The area size should be suitable for your players, while also encouraging them to shoot early. Set out two zones. Defenders begin the practice within Zone 1, while attackers are free to start anywhere.
One attacker collects a ball and dribbles down the pitch, looking to score alongside their two team-mates. If they score from within Zone 1 or 2, they get two points rather than just one. If the defenders win possession they attempt to get the ball into Zone 2, winning a point. After five goes, players rotate their roles.
Progressions: a time limit and extra points for a one-touch finish.
Players should again consider the position of the defenders and the goalkeeper, how they can create space to shoot and using disguise when shooting. Players should still be given encouragement to shoot rather than pass to a team-mate. In addition to this, they need to fi nd solutions to how they can do all of this within the zones.
