Gives players a chance to express themselves in a low-pressure environment, and encourages teams to bond and support each other.
Use a regular pitch with goals. Split players into two teams, with no goalkeepers. Teams should stand behind the line at each end of the pitch. They give each of their players a number – the coach and the other team shouldn’t know these. Coach stands outside the pitch in the middle with a ball.
Coach shouts a number and plays the ball into the middle. The two players with that number must race to the middle to win the ball and score a goal for their team. Play continues until a goal has been scored or the ball goes out of play (in which case neither team wins a point). Players then return behind their lines and the next number is called.
Progressions: Coach can call two numbers, then three and so on. They can also experiment with the type of pass they play into the middle.
