A session teaching players to receive on the half-turn and break defensive lines. Use this session as a standalone activity, or combine it with two progressions to create a full session
This practice tests the learning from the unopposed warm-up. It is now played with pressure and a scoring system.
Set up an area relative to the age and ability of your players. It is shown here as a 7v7. Mark a scoring zone at each end with flat cones. At the end of the zones, place balls on top of high cones.
Each team is looking to score by knocking the balls off the cones in the scoring zone. Each team can try for a point when they have made a minimum of three passes. No shooting is allowed within the scoring zone, which is also a safe zone where the opposition can’t be tackled. The winner is first to knock off all the balls.
Progression 1: If a team wins the ball back they can shoot within three seconds.
Progression 2: If the ball is played forward to break a line, they can shot straight away even if three passes have not been made.
