Develops players’ ability to support the player on the ball and to take an effective touch into the area they want to go.
Set up a small square area with one player in the middle and a server in front and behind them. Use two gates on each side of the area (so four in total) - all different colours.
The server calls out a colour and passes to the player inside the area, who must travel through the corresponding gate. The server then enters the area and receives a pass from the other server, who calls out the colour of the gate they should travel through. The player who travelled through the gate replaces the server. The practice continues in this manner.
• What is the path and speed of the ball?
• How do you need to adjust your body shape and position to receive the ball?
• Can you scan before receiving to identify where the gates are?
• In which direction do you want your first touch to take you?
