Putting the player in possession of the ball under pressure means they will have to find solutions.
Puts the player in possession under pressure, forcing them to move with the ball and find a way past defenders.
Set up a square area, of a size relative to the age, ability and number of your players. Place two gates on one side of the area and one gate on the other, plus a small goal which is set back from the end line. Two defenders start on the corners of the area - one attacker starts inside it and a server starts on the end line.
The server plays the ball into the attacker who attempts to dribble out of the area while being closed down by two defenders. The attacker can leave the area by travelling through a gate, passing into the goal or running the ball over the line. You can set different points for each of the exit options. Rotate the players through the different roles and positions.
• Can you keep your head up to identify where the options to exit the area are?
• Can you take small touches and steps so you can react quickly to move the ball as needed?
• Can you use tricks and disguise to evade the defenders?
