Get your players moving and passing the ball crisply and accurately with this drill that will have defenders not knowing which way to turn next.
Players must:
Warm up | Session | Development | Game Situation | Warm Down |
---|---|---|---|---|
10 minutes | 10 minutes | 15 minutes | 15 minutes | 10 minutes |
Split your squad into groups of three with a ball. Players A, B and C stand in an upside-down triangle formation, as shown in top picture.
The ball starts with player A, who passes to player B. A then makes a run that bisects team mates B and C.
A is now at the top of the new triangle and turns, ready to receive a pass. In the meantime, B passes to C, who passes to A.
Every time a player passes, they make a run that bisects both team mates then turn ready to receive the next pass at the top of a new triangle. The sequence is A, B, C, A and so on, and should be non-stop. Play two-touch.
Mark out an area 15x10 yards and use six players. Start with two receivers in the middle of the area, and two attackers at either end. The first attacker (A) passes to a receiver (R1) and run an overlap. Receiver R1 passes first time to receiver R2, who passes first time to the overlapping attacker.
The attacker passes to the first player in line at the opposite end (B) and the drill is repeated in the opposite direction. Regularly switch the two receivers.
Set up an area with a halfway line plus a five-yard end zone at each end. Play 3v3 with no keepers.
When a team attacks, the opposition must have one defender in the half farthest from its end zone, and two players in its defensive half.
The aim is for the attackers is to pass through both halves of the pitch and pass to a team mate in the end zone without losing possession or the ball being knocked out of play.
Only one member of the attacking team can enter the end zone and only for a count of three before they have to exit. No defender can enter the end zone.
Teams switch roles after five attempts. The team that successfully passes into the end zone most wins.
To progress, restrict the attacking team to three-touch, then two-touch.
