Improve your players’ vision and technique to play one-touch passes. With this skill under their belts, your players will be able to mount efficient attacks.
The best players have an ability to see opportunities on the pitch quicker than others. These players do this by scanning the pitch before receiving the ball. After they receive the ball, these players are able to make a quick, one-touch pass to their target and move off into space to be available if needed for another pass. A one-touch pass gives opponents little time to react and, in turn, speeds up the team’s play.

Players spread around the corners of a square in twos or threes. You or an assistant work inside the area to provide wall passes.
Player 1 starts the practice by passing to you or your assistant and runs to receive a return pass. Now player 1 passes into space for player 2 to run on to the ball. Player 2 now passes diagonally to player 4. Player 4 sets the ball back to player 3, who then plays a return pass for player 4 to run on to. Player 4 completes the circuit by dribbling back to the start position.
This means all players involved have moved to the next corner and join the back of each queue.
Players must complete three sets lasting four minutes.
Set 1 – Two-touch.
Set 2 – One-touch.
Set 3 – Change direction of the practice and complete using one-touch.
Use two teams of five players. Teams must play a possession game inside the area. The games are:
Game 1 – Teams score a goal by making a onetouch pass to a team mate.
Game 2 – Teams score a goal by making two consecutive one-touch passes.
Game 3 – Teams score a goal by making three consecutive one-touch passes.
Games last for four minutes with a one-minute rest.
Play a small-sided game between two teams. The pitch is split into three zones and teams start inside the central zone.
The aim is to play a one-touch pass into the opponent’s end zone so a team mate can run through and go 1v1 with the opposition goalkeeper.
Offside rules apply in this game – the attacking player must not be inside the end zone before the ball.
The team that scores most goals wins.
