Shooting low across the keeper is a good technique to acquire because it effectively gives you two chances of scoring. Firstly, the initial shot might go in. Secondly, because it takes time for the keeper to dive low, the ball might be parried and team mates following up rebounds can score.
Aim low, across the goalkeeper and into the corners.
Concentrate on accuracy.
Apply good technique – e.g. use the laces of one foot, or the inside of the other foot like Thierry Henry?
Look for rebounds.

What you get your players to do
Set up two 15x10 yard boxes divided by a threeyard channel. Put a goal at one end of the lefthandbox and another goal at the opposite end of the right-hand box.
Cone off the goals but leave a gap in the corner furthest from the three-yard channel.
At the beginning of each channel at the opposite end to the goal place a number of balls and a line of players. The players dribble a ball down the channel and shoot across the goal, aiming for the gap. They then run behind the goal and join the line going the other way and shoot with the other foot.
Players dribble the ball down the three-yard channel and shoot, aiming for the gap in the goal.
Development
Set up a 5-yard triangle just outside the penalty area on one side of the D with the tip just inside the area. Place a row of cones along the line of the D with a gap next to the triangle.
Servers line up outside the D and pass through the gap, into the path of a striker who is running from outside the area. The striker times his run to hit the ball first time or take a touch and shoot across the keeper.
Warn the keeper not to go too far to one side but stand where he normally would.
Servers and strikers change lines after each shot.
When everyone has had a shot, switch the triangle to the other side of the D so players are shooting with the weaker foot next time.

Server (S) passes through the gap for an attacker (A) to run on to and shoot across goal.
Game situation
Set up a 75x50-yard pitch with manned goals at both ends. Have a 35x25-yard box in the centre of the pitch with seven-yard channels on both sides.
Play 4v4 in the smaller box. To score, a player must break from a wide channel and run on to a pass along the ground through the front of the smaller box. Once the attacker breaks out, a defender can run back and challenge. The attacker aims to shoot across the keeper.
Play 4v4 in the central area. An attacker breaks from the wide channel on to a pass. A defender can track back at this stage.
