Soccer Coach Weekly Issue 162

Welcome to your latest issue of Soccer Coach Weekly!

This issue is the first in a series focusing on pre-season.

Some of you may be just about to head into the pre-season period; others, though, might still be enjoying the off-season, with pre-season a few weeks away.

Whatever stage you’re at, I hope you’ve had, or are having, a good break away from the game, and have been able to refresh and reset.

It’s easy to get caught up in soccer and everything that comes with it. Often, we forget how important those breaks are for us and our players – as we know, once the season gets started, there’s no stopping it!

Hopefully, this issue will provide you with all you need to ensure your pre-season is planned as best it can be.

We’ve got an overview of the purpose of pre-season; information on what a pre-season programme should look like and how you might build it; two checklists – one for pre-season and one for the new season – and some common pre-season FAQs.

We hope you find a lot of answers in there – but, of course, if there are things we haven’t covered, do let us know. Get in touch by emailing steph@greenstarmedia.net.

One of the most important things to remember throughout the pre-season period is that it should be fun.

We’re all in the game – whether coaching, playing, or doing something else – because we love it. So, let’s set the tone for the season ahead by putting fun at the heart of our pre-season.

Over the course of the next few issues, we’ll look at pre-season in even more depth, including advice from former Tottenham Hotspur and England youth coach John Allpress on what a pre-season session should look like, practices and sessions, guidance on welcoming new players, easing your nerves and much more.
