This issue brings to an end our consultant coach Carl Wild’s ‘What is…?’ series.
Over the course of the past few months, Carl has been breaking down some fundamental soccer skills.
On the attacking side, he has looked at receiving, finishing, moving with the ball, turning and passing.
And in terms of defending, Carl has written about intercepting, pressing, marking, covering and recovering and, the focus of this issue’s article, challenging.
In his final piece, Carl looks at what challenging is, why we do it and best practice for coaching it.
As usual, the article is followed with a related activity. This time it’s a 1v1 practice which allows players to nail the basic principles of challenging.
