Soccer Coach Weekly Issue 105

This Sunday, my U14s team played its last fixture of the 2022-23 season.

Watching my players give their all on the pitch, I could see they felt the same as me. A season is both physically and emotionally taxing.

Mine has been a rollercoaster of big losses, valiant comebacks, overcoming differences of opinion and celebrating the small wins.

Most of all, it has been watching my players really start that transition from girls to young women, growing and developing into incredible humans.

If your season has come to an end, like mine has, this is a reminder that whatever your feelings for it – good, bad, or indifferent – you deserve a rest! And, if you are like me, you should also get a haircut!

This past week, I also caught up with Moritz Kossmann again. You may remember I spoke to him a few weeks ago about receiving the ball.

This time, we discussed moving with the ball, and Moritz shared his thoughts around the skill, the technique of doing so and how we coach it.

He has also provided us with three practices on the topic, which you’ll find on pages 8-10. I would say page 8 is the simplest of the practices, and page 10 the most challenging.

I learn so much every time I speak to Moritz, so I encourage you to check out his stuff and do the same.
Elsewhere, Ian Barker is back with another of his tactical dilemmas.

Have a great week!
