A simple, fast game to teach players how to win the ball, support an attack and where and when to play a pass.
This practice works on winning the ball and quickly creating an attack.
Use half of your normal pitch with a 10x10 yard box at one end and a goal at the other.
Play 5v5 plus a goalkeeper. The team in possession has two players in the box and three outside (one either side and one in the other half of the centre circle). The out of possession team has three defending players in the box and two outside. The Reds start with the ball in the box. They must keep possession of the ball and can win a point by reaching a certain number of passes. The players outside of the box can be used, but only for a one-touch return. The Blues look to win the ball. Once they do, they look to set up an attack as quickly as possible, playing the ball to one of their players outside of the area, who go 2v2 on goal.
Team in possession: How can you keep the ball, using movement and making use of your players outside of the area?
Team out of possession: How can you win the ball back quickly? How can you turn defence into attack quickly?
