Works on players’ ability to identify chances and move the ball quickly to create them.
Set up a square relevant to the size of your group, split it into four areas and add a mini-goal at the end of each area. Two teams set up in the area – 5v5 is shown in the example, though this number can be adjusted. There are no goalkeepers.
One team starts with the ball behind the goalline at one end of the pitch. They either run the ball in or play it to one of their team-mates and then enter the area themselves. Both teams look to score in a goal to gain a point. Teams can’t attack the goal in the square they start play in, or the square they win the ball in – they must score in one of the other three squares. When the ball goes out, kick-ins should be used to restart the game, either from the sidelines or the goallines.
